Greenkeeping Tee 10

Greenkeepers contribute much to a golfers happiness or, at times, to his or her despair. What do golfers expect form the greenkeeper on the tees, particularly on the first tee, that will put them in a positive frame of mind.

1) The surface of the tee must be perfectly flat.
2) The first tee must provide some degree of privacy.
3) Tees should not be cramped, but spacious and sufficient large to accommodate 200 to 300 golfers a day. The main tee, from which the majority of players will hit their drives, should be at least the size of the green. A rule of thumb dictates that 100 square feet of teeing area needed for every 1.000 rounds of golf on par-4 and par-5 holes. On par-3, that area should be doubled for every 1.000 rounds. Whatever rule is applied, tees are rarely too big.
4) The slopes surrounding the tees should be gentle, so that golfers can ascend to the deck without having to climb a steep grade and be out of breath when they must drive the ball.
5) A tee should be firm, for better footing, but not so hard as to make it impossible to get a wooden tee into the ground.

During this summer, at Los Arqueros Golf three tee platforms was reformed in order to golfers a more positive frame of mind: tees of hole 2, 10 and 14.
