The Seve Ballesteros-Foundation Challenge, is an annual golf tournament solidarity aimed at raising funds to promote research on brain tumors. The first Challenge was held last April 2011 and was attended by over 12,000 players of all ages in over 140 golf courses throughout Spain. With the funds raised in the I Challenge, last year they signed an agreement with the CNIO through which the Laboratory Foundation was created Seve Ballesteros-CNIO.
The organization of a Pro Am event is usually expensive, especially if it is a charity event. But thanks to the main sponsor, the Town Hall of Benahavis, and cosponsors, Arqueros Golf suppliers such as Morales (Transport and Excavation Valle del Sol), Recambios Ana Belen, Golf Holiday, Golf Europe, Riversa, Ashworth, Röhnisch, Bordariz and golf courses that provided green fees prizes such as Las Brisas Golf, Aloha Golf, Los Naranjos Golf, Finca Cortesin Golf Club, Flamingos Golf, Atalaya Golf, Guadalmina Golf, Golf course St., Los Arqueros Golf, had not been possible to achieve this Pro Am without their help and support.
The entry list was filled out one and a half months before the tournament because of the huge demand for participation. Los Arqueros Golf wants this Pro Am to become a classic event to be held every year in the month of May, in memory of Seve Ballesteros and to support his foundation.
Among the Professional Golfers who took part in this was among others Manuel Araujo (the winning team with the Mayor of Benahavis Town Hall Mr. José Antonio Mena, his brother and Planning Councillor Mr. Ake Olofsson), José Francisco Maroto Francis Cantos Parra, Francisco Navarro Log, Diego Borrego, Gabriel Marin Perez, Andes Jimenez Marquez, Roberto Lantsoght, Muñoz Dominguez, Rafael Lavigne Zalazar Francisco Cea, Jose Higueras Antonio Ramirez, Miguel Antonio Jimenez Marquez, Pedro Núñez Gamez, Pedro Garcia Tineo Miguel Angel Perez Marin, Diego, Morito, Jorge Ruiz Ortega, Angel Hidalgo, Rafael Lopez Perales, Juan Francisco Guerrero, Angel Duran Alonso ……
There was a great atmosphere all day, by the well-maintained and good playing conditions which Los Arqueros Golf has kept now for more than a year, and for the cocktail held at the new “selfservice” Chirringuito creating a family, friendly and home made barbecue environment with barrels of beer, soft drinks, hundreds of sausages, … etc.
The winning team was led by the Pro Manuel Araujo, Jose Antonio Mena (the Mayor of Benahavis), Antonio Alberto and Ake Olofsson (Planning Councillor). The second placed team was Jose Francisco, Paul Allies, Allies Tracey and John Higgins. And the third ranked team was Francis Cantos Parra, Jesus Manuel Mejias, Jose Ruiz Gomez, and Jose Luis Edition.
A great golf event for a good cause. Back next year….
