Los Bandidos Round Robin Event at Los Arqueros

Los Bandidos Round Robin Event at Los Arqueros

Last Tuesday 17th April 2018, Los Arqueros was this year’s host course for the Los Bandidos Round Robin event that symbolises the end of their season.

Five clubs have taken part in this friendly and informal league for the last 25 years for players over 18 handicap – Guadalmina, Atalaya Park, Miraflores, El Paraiso, and Los Arqueros- and every year there is a Round Robin Day when the Trophy is presented, and an Individual Stableford is played.

Captain Bo Dahlström and his team organised the day superbly, and praise for the condition of the course, the Ladies presentation of the Prizes and Lunch Tables, the meal and service, the Caddymaster, and every aspect of the day, was universal.

The term “Los Bandidos” was originally coined for this league because the high handicappers were labelled as “bandits” for their dubious shot allowances and, consequently, it was surprising that the scoring on the day was so high. However, the strong wind, firm and very fast greens made scoring difficult especially as the majority of the players could not come to terms with the narrow fairways, long carries, and the slopes. Best score on the day was by Thompson Keating with 33 points, and Mike Foss came second with 32 points, and the Los Arqueros team took full advantage of playing at home to come first in the team prize.

Roger Ornulf (87 years old) from Miraflores them presented Bo with the trophy for winning The Los Bandidos Liga and the team represented by Bo, Thompson, Mike, Roy, Craig, Derek, and Doug posed for photos in a typically modest manner. Regulars absent from the event were John Yiend, John Matthews, and John Anderson. It is the second year running that the trophy has come to Los Arqueros reflecting the strength in depth of our Category 3 players.

It was a memorable day for the Club and from my point of view it could hardly have gone better. Many of the players congratulated our team on their success and confirmed that we have set the bar very high, and next year’s host club has a very difficult act to follow.

Well done to everyone involved.

From a grateful Captain,

Steve Bailey
