Last Tuesday, 6th February 2018, took place a new match of La Liga Seniors, this time Los Arqueros vs Alcaidesa.
Last season we lost 2-1 at Alcaidesa and consequently we were expecting a tough match again this year. It didn’t help that the conditions were particularly difficult with a strong offshore wind and very cold temperatures. This made the greens almost unplayable at times, especially the short sixth hole where Dean and I managed to putt off the green from two metres above the hole – it made our 11th hole look flat and easy!
Despite their putting woes, Dean and I were always in command of our match by getting three up with five to play only for our opponents to come back with two birdies and take it to the 18th where we secured victory with our own birdie.
In the second match Markus and Guy went down unsurprisingly 3&2 considering that they were giving 20 shots to two very experienced players. However, Fran and Alan guaranteed the team victory with a convincing win in the last match by 4&3 by playing good solid golf in the tricky conditions.
It was an important win and hopefully we will be able to consolidate upon it in the return match at Los Arqueros next Monday.
