As is normal at this time of year on the beautiful Costa del Sol, the golfers were greeted with a glorious sunny morning and the golf course was in fantastic condition. It was an open competition for members and their guests, which also attracted visitors of all ages and from neighbouring Clubs.
With an 8.45 shotgun start there was a great buzz around the caddiemasters and buggy forecourt areas with over 60 players loading up their buggies and some even managing to warm up on the driving range.
It turned out to be an exceptional days scoring on a course designed by the inspirational Steve Ballesteros and that has a reputation of taking no prisoners. But on this occasion the golfers might just have come out on top, well for most that is, some were still challenged beyond their talents.
Golf was followed by drinks and tapas and the prize giving ceremony presided over by a Director of Icon Golf SL. and Los Arqueros Captains – Steve Bailey and Inna Bladen (with translation by Ana Tarazona Bailey). We had prizes in 3 Handicap Categories, Nearest the Pin on all par 3’s and Longest Drive for ladies and Men on holes 7 and 15 respectively and the longest drive for men was won by a young man aged 12 who beat all the seasoned golfers by at least 20 metres, well done!!! There were also “picky” out prizes for all golfers so everyone went home with something from a fabulous day.
The final results of the Competition were as follows:
Men’s 1st Category: 1-14.9 Hcp.
1st Ernesto Galan Tineo with 39 points
2nd Andrea Miniciarelli with 38 points
Men’s 2nd Category: from 15 Hcp.
1st Craig Johnston with 40 points
2nd Jon Yiend with 37 points
1st Eliana Zarate with 43 points
2nd Inna Bladen with 38 points
