Severiano Ballesteros film

Last June was shown on the big screens in UK, including London, the film about the life of Seve Ballesteros. Which probably will not happen in Spain, although that film was shot in Spain, with Spanish actors and its protagonist also Spanish. Which clearly shows where is positioned the fans to this sport in UK with respect to Spain, where it seems that he was more a hero there than here. (Seve became very popular in UK, where he was affectionately called “Our Seve”. In 1981 Seve stunned the British with a sweeping victory in Wentworth, home of the Ryder Cup. There he got a total of 7 victories that made him the undisputed favorite player in the UK in the early 80s).

The aim of the film is to show the rise of Severiano Ballesteros, from humble beginnings in Pedreña to become one of the most successful golfers of all time: 3 British Open, 2 Master of Augusta, participated in five Ryder Cups, and 80 other victories around the world. This biographical film mixes documentary with fiction interspersed images recorded during his lifetime and his own interviews with a recreation of his childhood and adolescence.

The film is a Spanish and English co-production recorded entirely in Cantabria, with also shot in Santander (Club Pedrena) scenes, can be “the best tribute to Seve,” while contributing to explain the “phenomenon” emerged in Cantabria around his figure, from a sporting point of view and also social. I look forward to seeing this movie once its within reach of the spanish in Spain.
