Unfortunately the LA Interclub team just came up short in the Annual match against Guadalmina over the past two weeks.
It was a very close match at both clubs and the deciding point was really gained in the first match at Los Arqueros when two matches were halved on the last hole, with birdies, to gain an extra point for them. I thought at the time that it could be the decider and so it turned out.
There was some excellent golf in tricky conditions – wet and overcast in the first match, and cold and sunny on the Guadalmina South course with a very strong wind. Mike and I gained two good wins, with Mike playing particularly well in the Away match, and we were well under par better ball on both occasions.
Juan and Clemente did really well to gain a half against the Ortega brothers but the other pairs struggled on the bumpy and relatively slow greens at Guadalmina. It was disappointing to give back the Cup that we fought so hard to win last year but the team performed really well, and Guadalmina put out their strongest possible team and confirmed that this has become their hardest fixture, which is a great testament to the level of golf now being played at our Club. Well done to the whole team – a great effort – and next year we will win it back!
