Last Monday, 12th February 2018, took place a new match of La Liga Seniors, this time Los Arqueros vs Alcaidesa.

Although the end result looks as if we had an easy win that would be far from the truth.

The windy conditions were probably familiar to them but the super fast greens proved to be their undoing. In Match One Dean and Steve were giving 21 shots and that made it very difficult to get ahead but when the greens dried out on the back nine the Alcaidesa pair struggled to score and we finished comfortable winners by 3&2.

Markus and Guy had a similar challenge in Match Two giving their opponents 22 shots and their match went backwards and forwards until they managed to sneak ahead on the 18th and win one up. They were driven on by Markus and Guy’s determination to get revenge for their defeat last week - it’s the Viking Way!

Fran and Alan were up against it in their match facing an opponent who only dropped three shots in the first eleven holes in the very difficult conditions and they were two down at that stage. However, they rallied and showed their usual bounce-back ability and promptly won the next five holes and won 3&1.

Last year Alcaidesa were the only Club to draw with us 3-3, and therefore a 5-1 overall win this time is a very promising sign and, hopefully, we can continue to win valuable points in our next fixture against La Cañada on February 26th.

The results were (won 3-0):

Dean Cox / Steve Bailey won 3&2

Markus Ruulio / Guy Vindeou won 1 up

Fran Whelan / Alan Vowls won 3&1
