Dermatologist doctors at golf courses in skin protection campaign

PRINICIPAL

On Thursday 4th of August in Los Arqueros Golf was held the last campaign days of Photoprotection in golf courses for the prevention of skin cancer 2011, organized from the Health Agency Costa del Sol. Thanks to the collaboration of golf clubs on the Costa del Sol and sponsorship of Roche-Posay Laboratories. During June, July and August this campaign was held at the following golf courses:

• June 30: Golf Guadalmina
• July 7: ALOHA GOLF
• July 14: GOLF LAS BRISAS
• July 21: QUINTA GOLF
• July 22: GOLF Mijas (Los Olivos / LOS LAGOS)
• July 28: GOLF SANTA CLARA
• August 4: GOLF THE ARCHERS

At Los Arqueros Golf was attended by over 60 participants, players and workers, and people came out very satisfied with the examination of the skin and creams and information received. All success.

The overall target of the day were:
– To sensitize the target population of the risks of sun and promote the development of self-protective behavior for preventing skin cancer. Specific objectives:
– Understand the effects of sun exposure on skin
– Identify the skin phototype and personal risks of skin cancer
– Recognize the warning signs of skin cancer by skin self-examination
– Develop comprehensive sun protection behaviors (time, shade, clothing, hats, glasses, photoprotective creams)
– Select and use appropriate photoprotective creams

TARGET POPULATION
Golfers and golf course workers of the Costa del Sol

CAMPAIGN SLOGAN:
Following the framework of the campaign message: “Enjoy the sun without breaking the skin,” has developed the campaign slogan of the golf courses, “Enjoy golf without breaking the skin”

DEVELOPMENT:
1) Interview in sun exposure habits and risk factors.
2) Assessment of actinic damage and study of skin lesions.
3) Personalized recommendations for the prevention of skin cancer.
4) Advice on the most appropriate choice of sunscreen to all skin types.
They give each participant educational brochures and photoprotective creams.

SOLAR EXPOSURE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR A HEALTHY:
1. Reduce sun exposure at peak irradiation (12.00 to 4:00 p.m.)
2. Avoid using artificial tanning lamps
3. At noon, the shadow seeks protection
4. Protect your eyes with sunglasses that block approved 100% of UVA and B
5. Protect your skin using clothing, hats and photoprotective creams suitable for every occasion.
6. Choose a high sun protection cream suitable for your skin type, with UVA and UVB, apply it half an hour before sun exposure and renew every 2 hours and after swimming. 7. Drink plenty of water and juices of various fruits
8. Protect yourself whenever you make any outdoor activity: walking, cycling, gardening …
9. Remember to protect also on cloudy days. Check the UV Index (UVI). Some circumstances (altitude, wind, sand, snow …) increase the risk of sun exposure and give a false sense of security. 10. Examine your skin regularly, if you notice changes in color, size or shape in a mole, see your doctor.
